MANILA — Isolated rains may prevail over the country on Saturday, the weather bureau said.
In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said a frontal system may bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over extreme Northern Luzon’s Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Cagayan, and Batanes.
Localized thunderstorms, meanwhile, will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains over the rest of the country, including Metro Manila.
“Some of those thunderstorms can be severe as well and bring either landslides or flash floods,” said PAGASA weather forecaster, Ana Clauren.
She said the expected thunderstorms in extreme Northern Luzon can strike anytime during the forecast period.
“Thunderstorms expected in remaining areas of the country can occur during either the afternoon or evening,” she said.
Clauren said the frontal system affecting extreme Northern Luzon may also bring gusty conditions to this area.
Moderate to strong winds blowing northeastwards can cause moderate to rough coastal waters there and waves up to 3.7 meters high, she said.
“That makes it dangerous for small vessels to sail in those waters so people who will venture out there must exercise caution,” she said.
The remaining areas of the country may experience light to moderate winds that can cause slight to moderate coastal waters and waves up to 2.1 meters high, she added.
