Cloudy skies with scattered rains Saturday due to ‘habagat’

By Raymond Carl Dela Cruz | Philippine News Agency

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected over Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, and Western Visayas due to the southwest monsoon or “habagat” that is being enhanced by Typhoon “Chedeng”, the state weather bureau said Saturday, June 10.

In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains in these areas.

PAGASA forecast partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms for the rest of the country, due to the “habagat” or localized thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, “Chedeng” has intensified as it moves away from the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

In its 5:00 a.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, the bureau said the center of the eye of “Chedeng” was estimated at 875 kilometers (km) east of Northern Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 150 km per hour (kph) near the center, and gustiness of up to 185 kph.

It is slowly moving north-northwestward and has strong to typhoon-force winds extending outwards up to 520 km from the center.

PAGASA noted that while the typhoon itself would not affect the country’s weather, “Chedeng” might enhance the southwest monsoon to bring occasional rains over the western portions of Luzon and the Visayas in the next three days.

In the meantime, Northern and Central Luzon will experience moderate to strong winds blowing southwest to west, with moderate to rough seas.

The rest of the country will have moderate winds blowing southwest, with moderate coastal waters.

The temperature in Metro Manila will range from 26°C to 32°C; Baguio City, 17°C to 24°C; Legazpi City, 26°C to 32°C; Metro Cebu, 26°C to 32°C; and Metro Davao, 26°C to 33°C.
