Comelec eyes more simulation activities for village polls

MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) eyes to conduct more simulation activities of Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls.

Comelec acting Chairman Al Parreño, however, noted that the activities will be at the regional level during the training of teachers who will serve on Election Day.

“It will be held during the training of the teachers. It is better to have the simulation during the training since the teachers are all there already,” he said in an interview Thursday.

The poll body chief said they are coordinating with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Education (DepEd), as well as the citizen’s arms Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) and National Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL), for them to send their representatives during the said activities.

Parreno added that the learnings of the Comelec head office during the simulation activity in Manila last April 21 shall be communicated to their regional officials.

“The learnings we had last Saturday will be cascaded to the field officials and will be highlighted during the simulation activities at their level,” Parreno noted.

The activity which was held at Rosauro Almario Elementary School in Tondo, Manila, simulated the voting and canvassing processes to test the readiness of the members of the Electoral Boards and the Barangay Boards of Canvassers.

Likewise, it aims to identify potential problems and provide resolutions to such, and to familiarize voters on what to expect on May 14.
