Comelec to accept requests for VCM demos until April

MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will accept requests for demonstration and seminars on vote counting machine (VCM) until next month.

According to Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez, the activity will be conducted to help voters to be familiar with the automated election system (AES) which will be used in the forthcoming polls.

“But by the 3rd week of April, we will stop demo at that point because the demo machines will have to go into the pool of reserved machines,” Jimenez told reporters Friday.

With this, the poll body official noted that interested parties may send their requests to aesdemonstration@gmail. com

“We would like to extend invitation to all interested public, who are able to gather up an audience so we can conduct VCM demos and lectures,” he said in an interview.

A total of 12 VCM demo machines will be available at the main office in Manila and each regional office shall have four demo machines.

“For special interest groups like the media, academe, stakeholders, people who are not happy with AES, political parties, they will be handled by the central office. There will also be VCM equipment in the field so that our field officers will be able to conduct VCM roadshows on their own,” Jimenez added.
