The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is offering presidential and vice-presidential candidates the option to add security detail following the shooting incident involving presidential bet Ka Leody De Guzman.
The option of adding security detail must be formally requested to the Comelec.
Comelec Chairperson Saidamen Pangarungan condemned the shooting incident during De Guzman’s visit to Quezon, Bukidnon. This resulted in the injury of five attendees.
Pangarungan quipped that violence has no place in the election process.
“This is why the Comelec has been more active in pursuing peace covenants and providing decisive action if threats that disturb a peaceful election arise.”
The Comelec has already ordered an investigation to probe the relation of the incident in the upcoming May 9 elections.
Pangarungan also placed the municipalities of Malabang and Tubaran in Lanao del Sur under the Comelec’s control. – PTV News/Veronica Corral -bny
