Controversial Kamuning footbridge earns Dutch diplomat’s attention

By Gabriela Baron

The controversial high pedestrian footbridge in EDSA-Kamuning has earned the attention of a top Dutch diplomat.

Consul General Dirk Janssen of the Consulate General of the Netherlands in San Francisco, United States posted the picture of the footbridge on Twitter recently.

“There is no better way to make it clear to pedestrians that they don’t matter,” Janssen tweeted.

In 2018, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) explained that the 10-meter-high footbridge was made to help pedestrians cross the other side of the road.

Then MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said it was only “temporary” to avoid instances of jaywalking. – ag
