Cops begin to train on contact tracing

The country is in it for the long haul in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. And proof of this are sustained efforts to take on the most difficult, exhaustive and time-consuming component of the three pronged step of test, treat and trace against the coronavirus outbreak.

The country;’s police force has kicked off the training for contact tracing to back up community and healthcare industry initiatives per Spokesperson Brigadier General Bernard Banac.

Among the first crop of trainees: some 90 inter-regional-personnel of the Criminal Investigation Detection Group (CIDG).

Community or LGU participation has been enthusiastic and highly responsive according to Intel Chief and Incumbent Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong.

“Mayroon na rin tayong naisagawang initial traning. Ito ay pinangunanahan ng ating contact tracing czar, si Mayor Benjamin Magalong ng Baguio City (We have conducted initial training. This was led by contact tracing czar, Mayor Benjamin Magalong of Baguio City),” PBGen. Banac added.

Law enforcement participation will only be in a support function and upon request by local government units and healthcare officials.

The president has once more called on law enforcement to assist in contact tracing, directing DILG Chief Eduardo Año to mobilize and transport tracers to homes of those infected.

“Magpahatid ng kung anong sasakyan diyan sa pulis, doon sila sumakay, ihatid sila ng pulis doon sa boundary. Beyond that, ibang pulis na naman ang magsasalo sa kanila para hanapin ‘yung tao (Send a vehicle to the policemen which they can ride and be driven to the boundary. Beyond that, other cops will take over to contact-trace),” Pres. Duterte said.
