Cotabato village council aspirant nabbed for gun possession

COTABATO CITY – A candidate for village councilman here was arrested Wednesday for illegal possession of firearms, police said.

Agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, led by deputy CIDG director Chief Inspector Esmael Madin, arrested Haakon Blah Mikhail Sinsuat who is running for council member of Barangay Bagua 3, this city.

Madin said government authorities served the search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 13 Judge Bansawan Ibrahim for violation of Republic Act 10591 (illegal possession of firearms) against Sinsuat in his home along Mabini Street at about 3 a.m.

Seized from him was an unlicensed .45 – caliber pistol and ammunition. Madin said aside violating RA 10591, Sinsuat is also facing charges for violation of the existing election gun ban. (Edwin Fernandez/PNA)
