COVID-19 positive PDLs in BuCor increases

The total number of COVID-19 cases among persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) within the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has climbed.

Based on the latest data of the BuCor, 161 PDLs and 33 employees were confirmed to have tested positive with the disease. As of May 25, the total of COVID-19 cases within the BuCor is 194. Six of the total recorded cases expired while 11 recovered.

The highest number of cases was recorded in New Bilibid Prisons (NBP), followed by Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) said the second batch of 1,500 rapid test kits to be used for PDLs is expected to be delivered to BuCor next week. – Report from Kenneth Paciente
