Crimes in Bacolod down 21% in April

BACOLOD CITY — Crime volume in this city decreased by 20.98 percent last April.

The Bacolod City Police listed 241 crimes from April 1 to 30 this year, 64 incidents less than the 305 recorded in the same month last year.

In a press conference on Wednesday, city police officer-in-charge, Senior Supt. Francisco Ebreo said Bacolod City remains generally peaceful with zero high-profile crime incident.

Index crimes slid 37.78 percent from 90 in April last year to 56 last month. Index crimes are those committed against persons and properties, with focus on murder, homicide, physical injury, robbery, theft, rape, car and motorcycle theft.

Non-index crimes, or violations of special laws, dropped 13.95 percent from 215 in April 2017 to 185 last month.

The Bacolod City Police’s index crime clearance efficiency rose 7.82 percent to 58.93 percent last month from 51.11 percent in April last year. Its crime solution efficiency last April likewise increased by 7.18 percent to 66.07 percent from 58.89 percent in the same period in 2017.

Crime clearance efficiency refers to the percentage of cleared cases out of the total number of crime incidents for a given period of time, while crime solution efficiency is the percentage of solved cases out of the total number of crime incidents.

Also last month, the Bacolod police arrested seven most wanted persons and 20 other wanted persons.

In its anti-illegal gambling campaign, a total of 121 persons were arrested in 43 operations and 43 cases were filed, while in its anti-drug campaign, 27 persons were apprehended in 16 operations and 23 cases were filed.

A total of 270.66 grams of “shabu” worth PHP4.06 million were seized last month.

Last March, the total crime volume also declined 34.65 percent to 215 from 329 in the same month in 2017. Of the 215 crimes, 55 were index and 160 were non-index crimes.

Last February, crimes dropped by 27.3 percent to 229 from 315 in the same month last year.

During the second month this year, only 58 incidents of the eight focus crimes were recorded, 53.58 percent less than February 2017’s 125 incidents.
