DA sets Php400M to restart hog raising

The Department of Agriculture assured funding for hog raisers severely affected by African Swine Fever (ASF) in some regions.

“Mayroon tayong almost Php 400 million na ready sa Calabarzon at Central Luzon para dito sa Metro Manila ay pwedeng mag-restarting na, mag-umpisa muli ang hog industry (We have almost Php 400 million ready in Calabarzon and Central Luzon for Metro Manila for the restarting of the hog industry),” DA Secretary William Dar disclosed.

The DA said it will utilize the fund already handed to Regions 3 and 4A by providing piglets to community cooperatives of hog and backyard raising, and to commercial hog raisers through loans with low interest rates.

The said measure was raised after the department recently held a meeting with livestock groups and leaders of hog raisers. – Report from Rex Espiritu
