DA: There is oversupply of imported rice

The Department of Agriculture (DA) plans to increase the tariff on imported rice and tighten its sanitation permit. The Rice Tariffication Lawmesnt to fill up the 7% gap in supply by local growers. Agriculture Secretary William Dar said that the ideal volume of imported rice exceeded to 4.7% which lowered the price of palay even further. The DA aims to increase the tariff on imported ASEAN rice from 35% to 75% while those from non-ASEAN countries will increase from 50% to 100%. This measure will help local farmers affected by the price decrese of palay.
