Davao City starts sidewalk clearing for ‘Undas 2018’

DAVAO CITY–The government has started clearing sidewalks of vendors and other structures that obstruct the flow of traffic for “Undas 2018″.

Paul Bermejo, chief of local government’s Ancillary Services Unit (ASU), said Monday they will also monitor areas near cemeteries where vendors are expected to converge for the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on November 1 and 2, respectively.

Bermejo, however, assured vendors they will be placed in areas where they will not be obstructing traffic and pedestrians.

“I’m sure that the vendors have already prepared their stalls at this time so we will make sure that the structures they built will give way to those who will be visiting their loved ones in the cemetery,” he said.

Bermejo clarified that vendors are not prohibited to operate in cemeteries but there will be designated areas where they can sell their goods without blocking roads. Violators, he said, will be warned.

“We understand this is their means of living but we appeal to them not to obstruct the roads,” he added.

Bermejo also appealed to the vendors to help in maintaining the cleanliness of the cemeteries by cleaning the areas near their stalls. (Jecia Anne Opiana/PNA)
