Davao PNP orders ‘target hardening’ as another blast hits Isulan

DAVAO CITY — The Police Regional Office in Region 11 (PRO-11) has ordered police units around the region to implement “target hardening” measures on vital facilities following the second bomb explosion in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat on Sunday that killed one person and wounded 15 others.

Chief Supt. Marcelo Morales, PRO-11 director, also reminded police units that the full alert status remains in effect after it was raised following the first bombing incident in Isulan on August 28.

“Stay, toe the line, and maintain pro-active (stance) with the area of Davao region,” Morales said in a statement released Monday.

As authorities in Region 12 investigates the Isulan incident, Morales also directed all police units to conduct lateral coordination with police counterparts in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and other law enforcement agencies.

“Strengthen and tighten the conduct of security measures, intensify intelligence monitoring and conduct pro-active measures on target hardening,” Morales ordered.

Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz, PRO-11 spokesperson, said that based on the PRO-12 report, Sunday’s blast in Isulan occurred at around 7:35 p.m. inside an internet café along corner Valencia and Valdez Streets, Barangay Kalawag 2.

Driz said the explosion killed 18-year-old Mark Palencia Luda and wounded 15 others.

Tuesday’s (August 28) explosion in the same town killed two persons and wounded more than 30 others prompting authorities to implement stricter inspection on checkpoints. (Lilian C. Mellejor/PNA)
