Davao PNP vows relentless anti-drug campaign after arrest of ex-Army

DAVAO CITY — Police Regional Office (PRO)-11 director, Chief Supt. Marcelo Morales, vowed to hit hard vs. persons involved in illegal drugs, saying they “will not choose who should be arrested.”

This, after police operatives arrested an ex-military man and agent of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Iloilo and his wife when authorities raided their residence on Friday night in Fatima Village, Matina Aplaya, this city.

Police identified the arrested persons as Levi Brocamonte Bawe, 39, former member of the Scout Ranger 97 and an agent of PDEA Iloilo, with his wife Sharon Segura, a bank employee.

Levi is tagged among the Top 3 wanted persons for illegal drugs.

His wife was also arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Renato Gleyo of the Regional Trial Court (RTC)-12 for an estafa case.

Morales said on Saturday the arrest of the couple demonstrates the aggressive campaign of the Philippine National Police against illegal drugs.

“We would like to emphasize that our campaign against illegal drugs will not choose who should be arrested,” Morales said.

He said illegal drug pushers must be held responsible and face the penalties of the law.

Police in the region have been relentless in their campaign against illegal drugs and criminality, including gambling.

On Oct. 18 in Lupon, Davao Oriental, barangay captain Erwin Barabag of Macangao, Lupon town and a member of the 67th Infantry Battalion based in Davao Oriental, were arrested in a raid at the village leader’s house in Purok Mansanitas.

Also last week, five carnap suspects were arrested in Barangay Ising, Carmen Davao del Norte.

They were identified as Felmar Tagaamo, 18; Richard Eneves, 18; Wendel Dave, 18; Cristine Jae Gabriel, 18; and, Janric Nuena, 18, all from Tagum City.

The five young offenders are under investigation for their possible involvement in robbery incidents in Davao del Norte. (Lilian Mellejor/PNA)
