DAVAO CITY — A police officer assigned at the Davao Oriental Provincial Mobile Force Company (DOPMFC) has been put under restrictive custody for allegedly threatening a teacher at gunpoint following the former son’s defeat in a taekwondo competition.
Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz, spokesperson of Police Regional Office 11 (Davao region), identified the policeman as SPO1 Inocentes Talleon, who is being investigated following the complaint of Eva Garcia Carbo, a teacher of the Lupon Elementary School in Lupon town, Davao Oriental.
Talleon could face criminal and administrative charges for his actions, Driz said.
Based on the report, Driz said that at the Banaybanay Elementary School at about 3:50 p.m. on Sunday, Talleon allegedly confronted Carbo about his son, who participated in a taekwondo event but failed to win.
Carbo was the taekwondo coach of the ongoing sports event in Davao Oriental.
Carbo reportedly tried to explain but Talleon would not listen. He left only to return with his M16 rifle, causing panic and alarm among the students, athletes, facilitators and the audience.
This prompted the school supervisor to call the police for assistance.
PRO-11 Director, Chief Supt. Marcelo Morales, reminded police officers of the Philippine National Police’s strict implementation of its internal cleansing program.
“I will not tolerate the wrongdoings or misbehavior of my policemen towards the public,” Morales said.
He said police officers are protectors of the citizens and should not assault anyone.
“The measures that the PNP is taking to sanction erring policemen are serious and to make sure these things won’t happen again,” he said.
Morales also encouraged the public to use the police hotline numbers to provide a speedy response to citizens’ complaints against any PNP member.
“The information reported to us will be of great help to the police in responding, resolving, and preventing immediately any incident and security issues,” he said. (Rhoda Grace Saron/PNA)
