MANILA — Inclement weather caused by the southwest monsoon, enhanced by Tropical Storm “Karding”, has so far caused the death of two persons and one missing in the National Capital Region (NCR), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday.
The two deaths were attributed to drowning and the victims were identified as Dioscoro Camacho, 36, of Block 25, Lot 22, Phase 2 Balubad Settlement, Barangay Nangka, Marikina City; and Gloria Borlongan Mendoza, 61, from Capitol Hills, Barangay Old Balara, Quezon City.
Reported missing was Edgar Indelible Bugaay, 50, a resident of West Riverside, Barangay San Antonio, Quezon City. Bugaay went missing after he reportedly fell in a creek and was swept away by strong currents.
A total of 248,090 families, or 1,057,767 persons, residing in 713 barangays in Regions 1, 3, 4A, NCR and Cordillera Administrative Region were affected by the inclement weather.
Of the total number of affected, some 12,647 families, or 54,682 persons are now being aided in 110 evacuation centers.
Another 1,077 families, or 4,426 individuals are being helped outside evacuation centers.
The NDRRMC also reported that three road sections in the CAR were affected since heavy rains started Aug.11.
These are the Banaue-Hungduan-Benguet Boundary Road in Ifugao; Baguio-Bontoc Road in Baguio City where clearing operations are now ongoing; and the Gurel-Bokod-Kabayan-Buguias-Abatan road network in Benguet which is still not passable due to soil erosion and debris flow.
A total of 3,178 houses were reported damaged, 51 totally and 3,127 partially, in Regions 1 and 3.
Around 124 areas in Regions 1, 4A, and the NCR have reported flooding since Aug. 11, of which 74 have already subsided. (Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
