DENR-ARMM launches slogan, poster-making tilt for environment month

COTABATO CITY–The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DENR-ARMM) has launched a slogan and poster-making competition for young people in line with this year’s environment month celebration.

Opened on Monday afternoon, the contest will run until July 1 during the culmination of ARMM Villages’ Expo, showcasing tribal house designs from around the region.

“We expect more youth to participate in our contest in the coming days,” DENR-ARMM Secretary Kahal Kedtag said. This year’s environment month adopts the global theme, “Beat Plastic Pollution: If you can’t reuse it, refuse it” that aims to minimize society’s high dependency on plastic.

The contest focuses on raising public consciousness on the harmful effects of plastics and on promoting sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives.

Winners for both poster design and slogan contests would receive PHP7,000 and PHP5,000, respectively. Winners will be announced on July 1, the celebration’s culmination day where the “Tinig ng Kalikasan” or environmental songwriting contest is also slated.

Kedtag said the department has also scheduled a clean-up drive in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao, for the campaign against the use of plastics, on Wednesday. (Noel Punzalan/PNA)
