DENR-ARMM worker killed, 2 others hurt in ambush

COTABATO CITY — Police here are hot on the trail of a motorcycle-riding gunmen who ambushed and killed Monday an employee of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and wounded two others.

Sr. Supt. Rolly Octavio, city police director, said probers have initial information about the suspects who ambushed and killed Abdulgani Guiama, 38, driver of DENR-ARMM, but declined to give further details pending follow up operations.

Guiama of Barangay Tamontaka 1, this city, was driving the DENR-ARMM van with Manuel Capin, DENR-ARMM supply officer, and Pablo Amador, a miner and visitor of the environment office when attacked ar around 3:30 p.m. along Ramon Rabago Sr Street when attacked.

The suspects sped off towards the direction of nearby De Mazenod Avenue.

Responding police officers rushed the victims to the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center but Guiama, a relative of DENR-ARMM Regional Sec. Kahal Kedtag, was pronounced dead upon arrival by attending physicians.

The two other victims are still confined at a local hospital. Police said the suspects were on board a Honda motorbike without license plate.

Police said motive of the attack could be robbery since the victims had just withdrawn cash from a bank. (PNA)
