DENR composite team to investigate Rizal quarry operations

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) created a composite team to investigate the quarrying operations in the province of Rizal.

According to the DENR, the mining companies need to undergo thorough investigation to identify the real reason for the flooding.

The DENR pointed out that with the help of aerial mapping drones, the operation will be immediately detected in the Marikina River basin.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau has earlier temporarily suspended 11 quarrying companies in Rizal that includes Asensio-Pinzon Aggregates Corporation, San Rafael Development Corporation, Montalban Millex Aggregates Corporation, Hardrock Aggregates, Inc., Rapid City Realty Development Corporation, Oxford Mines, Inc., Viba Aggregates & Marketing, Amiterra Aggregates Corporation Dream Rock Resources Phils., Inc., Superior Aggregates, Inc., and ATN Holdings, Inc.

The DENR will not lift the suspension of the said quarry operations until the investigation comes up with a result. However, Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro insisted that the quarrying activity in the upstream area must be “totally stopped.” – Report from Cleizl Pardilla
