PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur — Saving the environment depends on the contribution of the people in their respective localities.

This was the message of Tito Gadon, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) assistant regional director for management services in Region 9, during the World Environment Day celebration Thursday in the town of San Pablo town, this province.

Gadon lamented that riverbank dwellers throw their garbage and other waste materials into the river which are later washed to the sea by strong current during rainy season.

“These type of people’s contribution affects the marine ecosystem which causes damages and exploiting the seas,” Gadon added.

Meanwhile, the DENR personnel together with other stakeholders, government agencies and members of the media conducted a clean-up drive and planting of mangrove propagules.
