DAGUPAN CITY — The Department of Education (DepEd) Office here called on parents and guardians to register their children in Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7 and 11 for school year 2019-2020 starting Saturday (January 26) until February 22.
Ma. Linda Ventenilla, chief education supervisor of DepEd Dagupan’s School Governance and Operations Division, said the department aims to prepare for the school year through the early registration program.
“We also want all school age children to go to school. Matagal ng nag-start ang early registration program. Nag-umpisa ito sa mapping, nasa-saturate kahit malalayong lugar at mga depressed areas. At may mga batang of age na para mag-aral o lampas na sa edad pero hindi pa rin pumapasok dahil sa ibat-ibang dahilan (Early registration program has long started. It started with mapping, hence even those in far-flung and depressed areas are reached. There are children who are already of school age or beyond but are not able to study in school because of different reasons),” she added.
All that is required for a parent or guardian to present during the early registration is the child’s birth certificate.
“Pero kapag wala ang birth certificate, pwede pa rin namang ng magpa-register but for sure this will be required later dahil kailangan, bukod sa kanyang edad, andoon ang iba pang pertinent data tungkol sa bata kagaya ng pangalan ng mga magulang (But if they don’t have birth certificate, they can still register but the birth certificate will surely be required of them because it is a requirement, for us to know the child’s age and other pertinent data about the child like the parents’ names),” Ventenilla said.
The birth certificate should bear the correct spelling of the learner’s/student’s name to avoid discrepancy with the school records, especially since records in schools are considered permanent, she said.
Ventenilla went around the schools in the city to monitor the early registration.
“There are 34 elementary school in the city; eight Junior and Senior High Schools. We also have three integrated schools (complete from elementary, junior high and senior high), namely, Federico Ceralde Integrated School, East Central Integrated School, Pugaro Integrated School,” she said.
In Dagupan City National High School, one of the biggest schools in the city, the early registration went well, Principal Medarlo de Leon said.
“Nagkaroon kami ng iba-ibang campaign advocacies para ma-familiarize, ma-inform ang mga parents at ibang stakeholders, kasama dito ang social media at ang aming massive Bando Pakabat (We conducted different campaign advocacies to familiarize and inform parents and stakeholders, through social media and massive information campaign),” de Leon added.
