The Department of Education (DepEd) has activated its Disaster Risk Reduction and Management teams to respond to the impact of the 7.0-magnitude quake that rocked Abra and nearby regions on Wednesday, July 27.

In a statement, the DepEd said it joins the nation in “praying for the safety and welfare” of Filipinos following the major earthquake that has left four persons reportedly dead and private and government infrastructures damaged.

“Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Z. Duterte has already activated Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) teams to monitor and respond to the situation, including the provision of Psychological First Aid to affected personnel and learners,” it stated.

Several institutions and schools have already canceled classes in the Cordillera Administrative Region and other provinces.
