The Department of Education (DepEd) is set to release its revised curriculum for academic year 2020-2021.
DepEd Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan said the new curriculum has been compressed into the most essential learning competencies (MELC) and will begin implementation this year. These learning competencies include knowledge, understanding, skills, and attitudes that students need to demonstrate in every lesson.
Sixty percent of the MELCs has been removed from the 14,171, leaving 5,689 for the upcoming school year.
Malaluan explained this is a result of a two-year study which aims to address congestion and overlaps of the K to 12 curricula.
Meanwhile, some DepEd schools divisions are coming up with solutions to address challenges in the education sector amid the ongoing pandemic. The TV Eskwela will soon be launched in Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental where six hours of airtime from the local channel will be allotted for the DepEd to air lessons.
