MANILA— The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is awaiting the approval of Saudi Arabia authorities before they could repatriate the remains of the Filipino migrant worker stabbed to death by a fellow Filipino on Monday.

DFA Assistant Secretary Elmer Cato said local authorities in Riyadh are expected to issue the approval upon the end of its investigation.

Cato added authorities are expected to receive on Friday the report of the autopsy conducted on the victim.

Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Adnan Alonto, at the same time, reported that the suspect remains in serious but stable condition at the National Guard Hospital in Riyadh.

The suspect reportedly jumped from the third floor of the apartment building he and the victim were staying in.

The agency, who did not identify the victim and the suspect, has yet to disclose the motive behind the stabbing.

Alonto earlier extended the embassy’s condolences to the family of the victim and assured to exert every effort to give justice to the victim.

Meanwhile, Alonto urged members of the Filipinos in Saudi Arabia to refrain from passing on speculative and unverified information about the incident.
