MANILA — Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. on Saturday honored late former United States President George Herbert W. Bush by expressing admiration and respect to whom he described as one of the greatest American leaders.

“Possibly the best man to be US president: as a person, as a decent human being, and as one of the smartest in its history. You’ll all see that in time. He was the last of the great Americans, the absolute last,” he said in a series of tweets.

“In time everyone will see him as America’s greatest president, the most decent man to become a world leader. No flaws, not a spot of meanness,” he added.

Commenting on Bush’s letter to his then successor Bill Clinton, Locsin described the Republican leader as a man with plain pure class.

“Bush just dripped class. The guy was soaking in it. It started as amniotic fluid because he was born with class and it just stuck to him and increased with every act of his life starting with World War 2 heroism,” the Filipino top diplomat said.

Bush died on November 30 at the age of 94. He was the 41st US president, who had notable achievement during his term that includes steering America through the end of Cold War.

For two terms, he was the vice president of Ronald Reagan before he became Chief Executive himself after winning the 1988 polls, defeating Michael Dukakis.

He served as the US president from 1989 to 1993.
