DFA downgrades crisis alert level in Libya

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday, Aug. 9, downgraded the status of Libya to Crisis Alert Level 3 or voluntary repatriation for Filipinos there, noting “significant improvements in the country since 2019.”

It raised Crisis Alert Level 4 in Libya in 2019 calling for the mandatory evacuation of Filipinos there.

“The decision was made on the observation that, while the political and security conditions in Libya remain fragile, there have been significant improvements in the country since 2019,” DFA said.

“It is noted that Libya, despite the political divide between the east and the west, is currently not under a full-blown external from both sides,” it added.

According to DFA, conflicts in Libya since 2019 are “localized, sporadic, and targeted at combatants” and not large-scale civil conflict.

It also said that all 2,300 overseas Filipino workers in Libya perceive the country as safe and secure. -ag
