The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) said on Wednesday, Sept. 14, that the Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino housing program will build six million housing units under the Marcos administration.

In the Laging Handa briefing, DHSUD Assistant Secretary for Support System Avelino Tolentino said they aim to produce one million housing units per year from its former production of 200,000 housing units annually.

“Itong ating Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino, we’re now aiming for six million housing units over this administration, at over a period of six years,” Tolentino said.

“So magkakaroon po tayo ng production rate of one million housing units per year, as supposed po dun sa ating datihan na 200,000 units per year,” he added.

Tolentino said that at the end of 2022, the country will be in need of 6.5 million houses for Filipinos, which President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will address by building more housing units per year until the end of his term.

He added that the housing project of the government will also give “economic gains” for the country as it tries to recover from the pandemic.

“Hindi lamang po namin ito nakikita bilang isang solusyon sa pabahay, kung hindi makikita po natin na it will bring economic gains for the country. Tamang tama po sa pag-alis natin, sa pag-ahon natin mula sa pandemya,” he continued.

The official reiterated the importance of having a shelter as an opportunity for each family to have a successful life, a stable career, and good health.

“Nakatali po ‘yung [sa] pagkakaron ng bahay, pagkakaron ng shelter, ‘yun pong pagkakaroon ng mabuting kalusugan, at saka ‘yung pagkakataon po na makaangat sa buhay,” he said.  –ag
