Diaz, hindi magpapakampante sa mga makakalaban sa SEA Games

Nanatiling nakatapak ang mga paa sa lupa ng Olympic champion na si Hidilyn Diaz kahit marami ng siyang napatunayan sa larangan ng weightlifting.

Ayon sa bemedalled weightlifter, marami man ang umaasa na muli siyang kikinang sa ongoing 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games na itinatanghal sa Hanoi, Vietnam, ayaw niyang magpakampante sa mga makakatunggali niya.

Kaya naman, pagdating ng 31-year-old Zamboangueña sa Vietnam, todo ensayo na agad ito sa Steel Saigon Gym upang paghandaan ang pagdepensa sa kanyang gintong medalyang nakamit sa 2019 Manila SEA Games para sa women’s 55kg category.

 “Everyone of us can win a gold medal and I can’t cite names because all of us are doing our best to perform at the highest level,” saad ni Diaz nang tanungin kung ano ang kanyang prediction sa regional multi-sporting competition.

“I can’t make any prediction since all the athletes are capable of winning a gold medal,” dagdag pa niya.

Makakatuwang muli ni Diaz sa kompetisyon ang HD team sa pamumuno ni HD team head trainer Julius Naranjo, nutritionist Jeaneth Aro, at sports psychologist Dr. Karen Trinidad.

Makakasangga naman ni Diaz ang iba pang bigating miyembro ng Philippine Weightlifting team na sina reigning Asian champion Vanessa Sarno (-71 kg), Tokyo Olympian Erleen Ann Ando (64 kg), 2019 SEA Games gold medalist Kristel Macrohon (+71 kg), 2019 SEA Games silver medalist Margaret Colonia, Asian Championships silver winner Mary Flor Diaz (45 kg), at Rosegie Ramos (49 kg) para sa women’s division.

Sasabak rin sina Rio Olympics bet Nestor Colonia (67 kg), Fernando Agad (55kg), John Dexter Tabique (-89kg), Rowel Garcia (61kg), John Kevin Padullo (+89kg), at Lemon Tarro (73kg) para sa men’s division kasama sina coach Gregorio Colonia, Nicolas Jaluag, Gary Hortelano and Patrick Lee.

Samantala, mag-uumpisa ang biennial meet weightlifting competition sa Mayo 19  at magtatapos sa Mayo 22 kung saan nakatakda ang laban ni Diaz sa Mayo 20. – ag
