The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said that 34.4-M SIM cards were registered as of Feb. 19.

DICT spokesperson Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo said in a Laging Handa briefing Tuesday, Feb. 21, that they already launched the assisted SIM registration on geographically-isolated and disadvantaged areas to ensure places with low internet signal to register.

Of the number, Smart Communications Inc. accounted for 17.7 million, followed by Globe Telecom Inc. at 14.1 million, and DITO Telecommunity Corp. at 2.6 million.

The DICT said it also continues its cooperation with the Philippine National Police to put an end to text scams.

Lamentillo urged SIM card users to register ahead of deadline as after the implementation, unregistered SIM cards will be deactivated. – gb
