In line with the concerted effort to bring government service closer to Filipinos, a new TV program focusing on the works of Citizens’ Complaint Hotline 8888 and the Presidential Complaint Center (PCC) is launching this July.

Titled “DIGONG 8888 HOTLINE”, the one-hour program airs on the People’s Television (PTV) and its affiliate provincial stations every Thursday from 2:00 PM-3:00 PM.

CENTERPIECE PROJECT

Immediately after his oathtaking in 2016, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte issued Executive Order No. 6, institutionalizing 8888 as the Citizens’ Complaint Center – a mechanism for addressing grievances related to red tape and corruption in government.

Throwing his full support behind the project, the President personally endorsed the hotline to the public. “Kung kayo’y inabuso, kung kayo’y pinagsamantalahan, kung may hindi kayo nagustuhan sa gobyerno, tumawag kayo, day and night at ‘yung mga importanteng problema na nakikita ko, aksyunan ko kaagad,” he said.

Managed by the Office of the Executive Secretary, 8888 operates 24 hours, 7 days a week and receives thousands of calls everyday for various requests and complaints on government service, slow processing of papers, fixers, overcharging and misdemeanor of some government employees. It is mandated to deliver concrete and specific action on complaints within a 72-hour time frame.

Meantime the Presidential Complaint Center or PCC is a frontline desk of the Office of the President which serves as a liaison unit to various departments and agencies of government on all requests for assistance and information, as well as complaints and grievances. It serves the public through its headquarters at the Bahay Ugnayan in Malacañang, and entertains clients through calls, letters, email messages and personal visits.

DIGONG 8888 HOTLINE

A weekly public service program, DIGONG 8888 HOTLINE aims to bridge the gap between government agencies and the people through segments that will directly address the ordinary Filipino’s concerns on various government services. A featured agency of the week will tackle queries from viewers through field interviews and social media, including FAQs or Frequently Asked Questions for a thorough understanding of its processes.

It will also feature case studies culled from the PCC and 8888 files.

Radio-TV Malacañang (RTVM), meantime, will produce a regular segment called The Week That Was – a recap of the events and activities of the President during the week.

There are also plans to have special episodes where President Rodrigo Roa Duterte will personally answer and respond to calls and questions.

DIGONG 8888 HOTLINE will be hosted by Chief Presidential Legal Counsel And Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, Assistant Secretary Kris Roman of the Office of the Chief Presidential Legal Counsel and PTV news anchor Trixie Jaafar. The program premiers on July 11, 2019 .
