MANILA — The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and broadcast network ABS-CBN have resolved the contentious issues over the action drama series “Ang Probinsyano”.

In a joint statement on Thursday, both parties said their meeting on Wednesday resulted in a “fruitful dialogue”, stressing that they were thankful for the chance to express their views directly to each other.

“The DILG, including its attached agency the Philippine National Police (PNP), will continue to support “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” as it continues to inspire Filipinos with the valuable lesson that in the end, good will always triumph over evil,” the statement read.

The PNP also underscored the importance of the support and respect of the people to the organization, while recognizing the network’s freedom to create and convey the story of the program.

For its part, ABS-CBN assured them that the program will continue to portray Cardo Dalisay as a police officer with integrity, who is dedicated to serve and protect the people.

The PNP earlier called out the action drama series over its bad portrayal of police officers, especially the PNP chief.

This resulted in its withdrawal of support to the series through disallowing the use of police officers, facilities, and equipment.

“Ang Probinsyano” which began airing in 2015, tells the story of Ricardo “Cardo” Dalisay (played by Coco Martin), a decent police officer who was entangled in a series of events in his quest towards fighting societal ills and later joined the rebel group “Vendetta”.

The drama also features fictional PNP chief Alejandro Tarante (played by actor Soliman Cruz), who is in cahoots with fictional Vice President Lucas Cabrera (played by Edu Manzano) who is involved in illegal activities.
