Despite the alleviation on quarantine protocols and alert levels in the country, DILG and other government bureaus have no plans on resuming the annual celebration event.

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Epimaco Densing III said during the press brief in Laging Handa Wednesday, April 20, the yearly event will stay lifted not until the Department of Tourism (DOT) as well as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) changes its plans regarding the matter.

“Hindi po unless magbago iyong pananaw ng ating partner diyan ang ahensiya ng Department of Tourism”, Epimaco said.

According to him, LaBoracay generated massive garbage wastes which is not good for the environment, and the overpopulation beyond the required capacity as per IATF’s guidelines.

“Sa aming pananaw, sa huli naming pag-uusap kasama ang DOT, DENR at iba pang ahensiya ay wala pa ho kaming balak na ibalik itong LaBoracay dahil hindi maganda ang naging epekto nito sa kalikasan ng Boracay, not to mention sa dami ng tao at basura na nadyi-generate nitong LaBoracay ”, he added.

Meanwhile, Densing reiterated that they are maintaining to implement the minimum public health standard to avoid resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the island as well as to other tourist destinations in the country.

“Boracay po ngayon ang aming namo-monitor na talagang siksikan. All the rest of the tourist destinations sa iba’t ibang lugar ng bansa ang report po sa amin although dumadami hindi naman po siya nalagay pa sa sitwasyon na nagdidikit-dikitan ang mga tao”, he said. –ag
