DILG: No back riding yet, tricycles not allowed in national highways

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Aῆo has reiterated the “no back-ride policy” even for married couples or relatives as physical distancing must be enforced strictly in public places.

“Ito naman po ay hindi forever. Darating tayo sa bagong normal kung saan may mga zero cases na, pwede na nating i-allow. Health po talaga ang pinag-uusapan, health risk (This won’t take forever. we will get to the new normal where there are zero cases and then we will allow. We are talking about health and health risks),” Año said.

DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya also clarified that tricycles are still prohibited in national highways.

“Hindi naman po sila designed sa mga national highways dahil nga ang speed nila mababa lamang at mabibilis ang takbo ng malalakig sasakyan (They are not designed for national highways as their speed is slow while larger vehicles run faster),” Malaya explained.

Malaya said tricycles that will be caught traversing national highways will be apprehended. He also clarified that tricycles are allowed in barangay and secondary roads.
