DILG: No politicking allowed in distribution of aid

By NG Seruela

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has announced the prohibition of placing names, initials, pictures, logos, or any image of officials or politicians on the items and financial aid being distributed to persons affected by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

In today’s Laging Handa public briefing, DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya reiterated that politicking is not allowed in the distribution of the aid. He pointed out that the aid is not part of the Social Amelioration Program (SAP), but an assistance from the national government.

Malaya said that whoever violates the prohibition will face charges if proven guilty.

He also disclosed that almost 90% of the local government units (LGUs) concerned have received the assistance from the national government “in cash” and are expected to distribute this on Wednesday, April 7. He also reminded the LGUs to post the names of the beneficiaries in their barangay hall or social media pages for transparency purposes.
