DILG to LGUs: Lift ban on processed meat products

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has lifted the ban on documented meat products from Luzon. This was imposed by 56 provinces of Visayas and Mindanao due to the African Swine Fever outbreak. The DILG, however, provides several conditions for the same. Commodities made of pork must have a veterinary health certificate, sanitary and phytosanitary permits.Locally processed meats must have a certificate from the National meat Inspection Services (NMIS) to ensure that the utilized meat has not been contaminated. Canned meat products must be subjected to 116° Celsius heat for an hour. Hotdog, ham, and bacon must have undergone 72° Celsius heat. The same goes with lightly-cooked meat products such as tocino, longganisa, and tapa but should be cooked for 40 minutes. Non-compliant government officials will be liable for violation of the Ease of Doing Business Act.
