The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) pushes further President Rodrigo Duterte’s advocacy to promote economic and social development in the Luzon leg of the Public-Private Partnership for the People Initiative for Local Governments (LGU P4).
DILG Acting Secretary Catalino S. Cuy said that in line with the President’s vision, the Luzon conference of LGU P4 gathers local chief executives, private companies and other stakeholders in a convention where best practices and possible partnerships and investments between the LGUs and the private sector are lobbied.
Cuy said that LGU P4 is a vehicle where the private sector plays a vital role in the implementation of innovative projects of LGUs that will promote the general welfare, inclusive growth, and better quality of life of the people.
“This conference targets to induce a synergy among stakeholders, especially the private sector, to tie up with the LGU for possible business endeavours which in the long run shall benefit the people,” Cuy said.
Participants of the conference are local chief executives, Sangguniang Bayan Chairpersons on the Committee on Economic Affairs, local economic and investment promotions officers (LEIPOs), local planning and development coordinators (LPDCs), and provincial Liga ng mga Barangay from Region 5 and the National Capital Region.
“We are elated to participate in this Luzon leg of the LGU P4 conference. This is the proper venue for us LGUs to get technical insights on how to efficiently address various aspects of public-private partnership,” said Mayor Caroline Sy-Reyes of Pilar, Sorsogon.
Among the topics tackled during the conference were basic concepts and legal basis of LGU P4, investment opportunities for LGUs in a public-private partnership, sharing of LGU best practices on P4 where LCEs from Valenzuela City and Legazpi City in Albay imparted vital business ventures that were products of P4 initiatives.
Engr. Joseph Esplana of the City Government of Legazpi said that projects which emanated from public-private partnerships are now reaping fruits in several business undertakings which created thousands of job opportunities for city residents.
The Luzon leg also gave opportunities for LGUs to listen to some potential PPP projects in support of local needs such as climate change, power and energy development, services and system development, and PPP financing options for LGUs. (DILG-PR)
