Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Sec. Hans Leo Cacdac on Tuesday urged overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to refrain from posting or sharing content related to attacks in their respective host countries.
Cacdac issued the advisory after three OFWs were reportedly arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to alleged posting of videos related to the recent missile attacks in the gulf state.
In a news release, the DMW said, “OFWs should strictly abide by host country security protocols and regulations.”
Cacdac likewise assured that legal assistance is being extended to the arrested OFWs.
“The Migrant Workers Office in Abu Dhabi has also contacted the families of these OFWs to give such assurance,” the agency stated.
For its part, the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi said it is providing all necessary legal and consular support to the affected Filipino migrant workers.
It also reminded OFWS to “strictly adhere to local laws and regulations concerning the creation, posting, and sharing of photos, videos, and other online content, including AI-generated material, particularly in the context of the current regional situation.”
Malacañang earlier reiterated President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure the safety of OFWs, especially in the Middle East, due to the ongoing tension in the region.
“Ang bilin ng Pangulo sa lahat ng pagkakataon laging unahin ang kapakanan ng ating mga kababayan,” Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a press briefing.
