DND, DOTr ink MOA on airport dev’t projects

MANILA — In line with the Duterte administration’s “Build, Build, Build” program, the Department of National Defense (DND) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the procurement and implementation of various airport development projects.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade signed the MOA at the DND Social Hall.

The agreement is expected to help the government’s “Build, Build, Build” initiative.

Through this joint venture, a sum of PHP688,022,500 will be allotted for four initial priority airport projects.

The budget is allocated for the asphalt overlay runway and strip grade correction of the Laoag International Airport in locos Norte, the extension of runway of the Vigan Airport in Ilocos Sur, Asphalt overlay of the runway of the Cotabato Airport in Maguindanao, and the construction of perimeter fence and embankment of the Sanga-Sanga Airport in Tawi-tawi.

Lorenzana expressed confidence in finishing these projects on time, noting that he is hopeful the infrastructure development in other airports will be prioritized.

“Together, the DND and the DOTr will endeavor to give Filipinos a more comfortable life. As Secretary Tugade said, ‘kasama namin kayo sa(You are one with us in the) Build, Build, Build (Program), at kasama rin namin kayo sa pagbibigay ng mas komportableng buhay para sa mga Pilipino (and you are one with us in giving Filipinos a more comfortable life),” the DND chief added.
