DOH: 157 rabies cases reported from Jan. 1

A total of 157 cases of rabies have been reported from January 1 to June 25, the Department of Health (DOH) said Wednesday, July 13.

The total number of rabies cases this year is 5% lower compared to the reported cases during the same period in 2021 at 165.

According to DOH data, most rabies cases were reported from Central Luzon (25), Calabarzon (21), Western Visayas (17), and Davao Region (16).

The majority of the cases (119) were not vaccinated with rabies immunoglobulin and/or rabies vaccine.

Meanwhile, most of the biting animals (131) among rabies cases were dogs.

About 77 out of 157 biting animals of the reported cases were domesticated. Of the number, 53 were unvaccinated for rabies. – ag
