The Department of Health (DOH) advised that additional public utility vehicles (PUVs) must be allowed instead of increasing the capacity of public transportation.
According to DOH Director of Knowledge Management and Information Technology Service Dr. Eric Tayag, the recommendation of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) to increase the public transportation capacity to 75% must be thoroughly reviewed since it can cause an upsurge in the number of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases.
The OCTA Research Team shared the same viewpoint. While it does not oppose the opening of the economy, it is too early to increase the capacity of PUVs.
“We are giving the UK Variant opportunity to spread if we increase capacity in public transportation,” the group of experts cautioned.
