DOH allows resumption of use of AstraZeneca vaccine on ages 59 and below

The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday (April 19) allowed the resumption of the use of AstraZeneca vaccine on individuals aged 59 and below.

DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire explained in a briefing that the DOH and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lifted the suspension order against the use of the vaccine on people of those ages.

She said that they will issue guidelines for the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine to include the “different precautions” submitted by the FDA.

FDA Director-General Eric Domingo earlier said that the vaccine’s potential to protect outweighs the risk, while the Health department stated previously that it has not recorded any blood clotting in Filipino vaccine recipients.

Meanwhile, the second batch of AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX facility is expected to arrive before June.
