DOH eyes expansion, hastened vaccination rollout

The Department of Health (DOH) is looking into the expansion and hastening of the vaccination rollout as the increased number of COVID-19 doses is expected to arrive in June.

The department is coordinating with the private sector, large hospitals, and malls regarding the expansion and hastening of the vaccination rollout. Also, it is only waiting for the memorandum of agreement on the conversion of Nayong Pilipino as a mega vaccination site.

The DOH also plans to establish large parking spaces as vaccination sites.

In relation to this, the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (NITAG) suggested converting churches to vaccination sites.

“Because in churches po, well ventilated po usually daw ang mga lugar na malalaki ang simbahan at baka maaaring makatulong din sa mga pagbabakuna natin,” DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a forum on Monday (May 24).

Meanwhile, the National Task Force against COVID-19 (NTF) aims to vaccinate 500,000 individuals per day to achieve herd immunity within six months.

The highest reported daily doses administered is 237,984 that was logged on May 21. The DOH said that the said high number can be maintained.

The department also assured that it is prepared to assist local government units (LGUs) that are having a hard time in reaching their targeted vaccinees per day.
