DOH lays out vaccine storage plan

The Department of Health (DOH) laid out its plan for the storage of the vaccine to ensure its quality.

DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire disclosed the department’s plan of having 4 cold storage rooms and 2 walk-in freezers in Metro Manila which will be the central hub for all the vaccines. There will also be strategic areas in the country for other cold chain hubs to receive the vaccine before distributing to different facilities. Bicol, Cebu, and Zamboanga are among the places being looked into for the said hub.

Currently, the DOH continues in coordinating with the private sector regarding the matter.

The government has initially stated that it aims to vaccinate 70 million Filipinos to reach herd immunity. However, the DOH disclosed that there is no assurance that the vaccinated individuals will have 100% immunity against the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The effect of the vaccine might only be to prevent the worsening of the disease. – Report from Mark Fetalco
