DOH monitors ‘Dengvaxia’ patient in W. Visayas

ILOILO CITY — The Department of Health (DOH) is waiting for the laboratory test results of an 11-year-old girl recently admitted at the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in this city.

Dr. Reynilyn Reyes, DOH Region 6 head of the family, health and nutrition cluster, said the patient was discharged on Wednesday pending result of the test sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Metro Manila.

The patient complained of fever when she was admitted on January 16.

Based on the report provided to the Dengvaxia surveillance, the girl received three doses of anti-dengue vaccine when she was still enrolled in a public school in Manila.

The patient had previous dengue infection in 2011.

However, the final diagnosis was acute tonsillopharyngitis. She was also tested for dengue and other illnesses such as rheumatic heart and typhoid fever but the result was negative.

A further laboratory test was conducted and the specimen was sent to the RITM, Reyes said.

Meantime, the mother in an interview over a radio station here said that her child was injected with the Dengvaxia on April 11 and November 15, 2016, and May 5, 2017.

The mother added that she signed a consent card before her child was vaccinated.

Sometime in June last year her daughter experienced fever and joint pains. She also got sick with similar symptoms in July and December.

Prior the hospitalization last January 16, she was brought to the rural health center and she was then referred to the WVMC.

Reyes said the child had already recovered when she was discharged on Wednesday. (Perla Lena/PNA)
