DOH records more than 200 cases anew; recoveries surpass 1,000

The Department of Health (DOH) recorded a high number of COVID-19 cases on Wednesday at 254, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 8,212. The total recoveries soared to 1,023 as 48 more patients recovered from the disease while the number of fatalities increased to 558 with the reported death of 28 individuals.

DOH USec. Maria Rosario Vergeire disclosed 1,552 health workers tested positive for COVID-19. She added that 32 died and 232 recovered.

The DOH also insisted it is not recommending medicines until there is enough scientific evidence to support them. Vergeire added there is still no result on the study on Carrimycin as treatment for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the DOH emphasized the importance of mental health amid the pandemic and urged those suffering from depression to get in touch with the National Center for Mental Health through its hotlines 09495682910 and at 09663514518.
