DOLE grants livelihood to poor Nueva Ecija residents

CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Wednesday gave livelihood assistance to marginalized residents here.

The undertaking was initiated by the DOLE Nueva Ecija Field Office and the City Government of Cabanatuan through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO).

DOLE Nueva Ecija Field Office head Maylene Evangelista said the beneficiaries are parents of “children-at-risk,” who are mostly unemployed, while some of them are seasonal workers engaging in collection of recyclable materials from garbage.

The livelihood provision, sourced from the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program or DILEEP, is in form of DOLE Kabuhayan Starter KITS.

Of the 30 livelihood recipients, 13 received start-up frozen good retailing products while the remaining 17 received “sari-sari” store start-up packages.

Evangelista said the provision of livelihood assistance is under the Livelihood Enhancement Program for Child Labor-Free Barangay.

“The essence of this program is geared towards helping the parents, especially the most vulnerable, to have decent and productive sources of income. It is by helping them through our livelihood projects which will help them prevent their children from being compelled to help the family by engaging in hazardous works,” she said.

She also said the beneficiaries underwent training to ensure the proper management of their livelihood projects. (Marilyn Galang/PNA)
