The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) summoned the officers and representatives of the contractor of Skyway Stage 3 Project to a mandatory conference after the coping beam in the construction site along Osmeña Highway collapsed on Tuesday.

DOLE – National Capital Region Director Henry John Jalbuena ordered a mandatory conference for the project contractor DM Consunji Inc. (DMCI) for them to shed light on the incident and submit their occupational safety plan.

Reports indicated that in the morning of July 18, the installed re-enforcement coping beam bars or steel braces of one of the bays of Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 Project had collapsed in Palanan, Makati.

To ensure the safety of workers and travelers passing the construction area, DOLE-NCR temporarily suspended the operation in the affected area. The suspension can only be lifted until the contractor is able to submit its safety plan or program of procedure to prevent similar incidents.

In an inspection report, DOLE – NCR also recommended that the contractor conduct a one-day safety re-orientation for all its workers, submit a re-enforcement bar installation methodology and a final official report of the incident, including receipts of hospital bills incurred by the injured workers.

Those injured workers were Nicolas Momar, Arcadio Tandog, Bernardo Corpuz and Ronald Degamo. The incident also caused damage to three vehicles passing along the highway.
