The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is calling on eligible applicants for a graduate scholarship grant who want to obtain masteral and doctoral degrees related to science and technology in Taiwan.

Regional director Armando Ganal of the DOST Ilocos Region said Wednesday, Jan. 18, the scholarship is open to all Filipinos who are in the first five years of their research career and aged 50 years and below.

They must also pass the admission requirements for graduate studies in a foreign university with a good track record. Their research interest must also be aligned with the DOST’s harmonized national research and development agenda.

“Application is now ongoing for those who wish to take advantage of the program,” said Ganal, adding that the deadline for application is April 15, 2023.

The DOST said priority areas are health, agriculture, and renewable energy.

Co-funded by the Taiwan government, the grant covers school fees, book allowance, thesis or dissertation allowance, transportation allowance, one-time pre-departure expenses, living allowance, relocation allowance as well as health or accident insurance.

The Manila Economic Cultural Office (MECO) and Taiwan Economic Cultural Office (TECO) have a joint research project involving Filipino and Taiwanese scientists and researchers on virology, nutritional genomics, and artificial intelligence, among others.

Aside from Taiwan, other foreign scholarship grants this year are also available in Japan, China, India and France, according to the DOST website.

The public was advised to regularly check the DOST website and DOST International Cooperation Facebook page for updates and announcements, as calls for proposals have yet to be scheduled. (PNA)
