DOST to unveil ‘historic 1st batch’ of 21st century-model classrooms

LOS BAŇOS, Laguna — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Calabarzon Regional Office will lead the official unveiling of the “historic first batch” of the 21st Century Learning Environment Model (CLEM) Classrooms at the Inosloban-Maraoay National High School (INHS) in Lipa City, Batangas on Monday (Aug. 13).

Demee Angelica S. Ludia, information officer of the DOST Calabarzon Public Affairs, Relations and Communications Unit (PARCU), told Philippine News Agency on Thursday that the historical event would bring awareness to the public about the DOST Calabarzon’s project initiative, with the DOST-Science Education Institute (SEI) as co-implementing agency on the 21st CLEM classroom.

Ludia said the INHS is one of the five public schools in Lipa City equipped with a 21st CLEM classroom setting that capacitates students-learners perform S&T skills.

The 21st CLEM project was also made possible through the monitoring of the DOST-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD) and collaborative support from the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Lipa City and the provincial government of Batangas.

Gracing the occasion will be Senator Ralph Recto, Batangas (6th District) Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto, DepEd Secretary Leonor M. Briones, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Acting Secretary Usec. Eliseo Rio, and National Electrification Administration (NEA) Board of Administrators chairperson Armando Cusi.

“The inauguration will be a celebration of collaborative efforts put together by these agencies in trailblazing a modernized Philippine learning environment,” Ludia said.

She said the event will also feature the ceremonial energization and internet powering through “Pipol Konek” (the people’s connectivity project) of the INHS.

Four other public schools such as the Lipa City National Science High School, Bolbok National High School, Pinagtongulan National High School and San Celistino National High School will be bringing the inaugural launch via live streaming of the 21st CLEM project.

“21st CLEM’s mission is to support DepEd’s K to 12 curriculum through a modern avenue” she explained, citing the DepEd’s thrust to “create learning practices, human support, and physical environment to facilitate the development of the 21st century skills of both teachers and learners.”

Other expected attendees are officials from DOST- Calabarzon, DOST agencies such as SEI, PCIEERD and DepEd-Calabarzon.

Ludia said the event is expected to boost the Lipa City government’s program on “Taking on the Challenge of the 21st Century.” (Saul Pa-a/PNA)
